Twenty-three.
I was nearing the end of a media and communications position at Anaheim's premier sports and entertainment venue. Charles and I were engaged, we were close but not yet married. I lived in Upland with dear friends - a cherished season made up of late night food runs, movies on the couch, and talks until the morning. At 23, exciting things were happening, and life was changing quickly.
2017.
Today, I turned twenty-four.
It is one year later, and life looks completely different.
Currently, I work in the heart of Hollywood as a marketer for musicals (!!) at a theatre rich with history. I truly couldn't have asked for a better team and mentor.
I am married to the man I love. We are close to our one year mark. Marriage has been a tremendous teacher; I have learned many lessons I otherwise may not have learned. More reflections on this to come, but to put it briefly, being married to Charles has been both the sweetest experience, and the most sanctifying. I love being married to this man.
Together, we moved to Azusa. If you've known me for a while, you'd know why this is such a big deal. It's a place to call our own. A place to share with my love and our two pups (yes, two - this is also the year Bruno joined our little family).
The many changes have brought on its fair share of challenges. I have learned to step into varying roles, adjusted to a new work community, transitioned from singleness to married life, met a few new friends, grew deeper with others, and even faced a painful loss with the passing of our beloved pastor. All in all, twenty-three was a whirlwind of a year, but the hope I have in the gospel has helped me step into each challenge with confidence and joy. God is so gracious and kind. I am learning that looking back can help cultivate a spirit of contentment and gratitude, especially when your wandering heart tempts you otherwise. For many reasons, life is good. And it is all by His grace. 23 was one hell of a year. Cheers to 24!
